FX205 MARK McGWIRE
'NO FEAR' commercial. Jeff Zwart, director.

Specifications:
One life sized body double, built to stand firm against hundreds of hardball impacts.
Materials: Fibreglass, urethane, acrylic eyes & hair.

Another job where we were unable to make lifecasting for reference, we worked from photos and measurements. This job took place in 1996, before Mark McGwire's record setting season. The list of body measurements we received said he had 21" biceps and 18" forearms. Try wrapping a tape measure around your own arm. Once you've tried this, it is understandable that we needed to double check these figures. "Yes," we were reassured, "the measurements are correct." So we proceeded accordingly, never fully convinced. Sure enough, when we got it next to him on set, we could see we'd matched him and those heroic arms perfectly. This stunt dummy stood in for him when the commercial called for about 40 professional pitchers to let their fastballs loose at him all at once. It held up very well throughout the shoot. Unfortunately for posterity, the body double was destroyed later and rebuilt into another figure.
