To create this melting bride and groom mannequin effect, male and female mannequin heads were cast in thin wax and painted. They were joined up with storefront dummy bodies that were rigged with gas lines. Large heat lamps were used on the the wax heads to simulate the effect that approaching lava flows washing down Wilshire boulevard were melting them. Gas lines in the bodies were then ignited, setting the bodies fully aflame.
